[ English ]

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
